Because they’ve always been great sellers, my post-Christmas plan is to make some more needle books to put in my Folksy shop. I wanted to do more applique too (because I LOVE it), so it seemed obvious to put the two things together. My first attempt is this applique leaf needle book…
I’ve taken the applique technique from the ‘Blattwerk’ project by Alexandra Rasmussen (whose gorgeous blog is called Moonstitches) in Whip Up Mini Quilts. I’m rather pleased with the result, although, I realise now that my outline stitching is not where I meant it to be, and I also rather regret the turquoise spotty fabric – those spots distract the eye a bit too much. But I like it enough to have a go at some more in the same style – they’re good fun to make too.
One of the things I love about this particular applique technique is that it uses lots of small, narrow pieces of fabric. This will definitely help me with my resolve to use up some of the 2 enormous bags of fabric scraps that I have saved up.. So that’s my first finished project for 2011… here’s to many more!
Another lovely thing that happened today was that Very Berry Handmade got a mention over on the Folksy Blog in a top ten list of UK sewing blogs. I’m very flattered to be in such company as U Handblog, The Sewing Directory, Kitschy Coo and more. I’ve noticed that there’s lots of visitors popping in from over there – so hello to all of you!
